Star Wars
Why love Star Wars? Why not? It is the best space cowboy movies ever made. Yes, I said space cowboy movies. If you ready think about it, all six movies really follow the story of two droids, C3-PO and R2-D2. They are the only characters in all 6 films. Think about it. The stories are great, the space battles are a lot of fun, and I love the lightsaber fights. Swords are cool, but swords mixed with lasers is more cool, I mean cooler ("rad" for all the 80's kids out there). Star Wars is about dreams of being something more than a farm boy, finding that power is not the way to find love, and that Leia should never kiss Luke like that ever again. I hope you join us this weekend for all 6 movies. This is going to be great.

New Assistant Youth Pastor
We have a new assistant youth pastor and her name is Katie. She starts this Sunday, so come out and meet her during the Sunday school hour. Make sure to make her feel welcomed. I know that she will be a blessing to the youth ministry at Acton. Hope to see you all Sunday.
Patrick says goodbye
A Letter from Patrick,
patrick

I have served as Assistant Youth Director at Acton United Methodist Church for two-and-a-half years and have loved every minute of it. The youth that I have had the privilege of shepherding have been the source of a joy that I will cherish and always remember. These young people have taught me so much.

Also, I have been given the opportunity to grow as a Youth Minister to these young people. I have learned so much and grown beyond myself through the many ministries that I have been responsible for: identifying musical talents that have developed into a Praise Band (that is truly awesome), serving as Worship Leader for youth worship and often delivering the message, working with those wanting to further develop their musical talents by teaching guitar lessons, helping youth learn sound and video technologies so that they could “run the show”, leading youth through spiritual retreats and other activities (ski trips, work missions, mid-winter, Road Rules, lock- ins, assisted on the Choir trip, summer youth activities, summer camps, games nights, just hanging out on Wednesday afternoons and many many more), identifying Sunday School curriculum, and working with parent volunteers as well as experiencing the joy of sharing each youth’s life (allowing them to feel Christ’s love so they know they are a gift of God).

Through the many experiences that I have had the joy of sharing, I believe I am now ready to step-out in Faith and take the next step in my spiritual journey. Last year when Natalie left and before Moose arrived, I had the privilege of stepping up my responsibilities as Assistant Youth Director and shouldering more responsibility for the program. Through that experience, I believe I am being called to be a full-time Youth Director at a church. I love Acton UMC and I love the Youth at Acton UMC more than words can describe, but I also think God is calling me to another place. I don’t know whether that calling will lead me or exactly how that call will play out in my life, but I believe God will provide.

I am submitting my resignation and my last day will be August 31, 2006 as the Assistant Youth Director at Acton UMC. My two-and-a-half years here will always be considered one of the best times of my life. I pray the Youth Group will continue to grow and many lives will be touched through this ministry.

Thanks for the joy of serving Christ through this ministry.

In His Service,
Patrick A. Turkett
