Mark 12:28-31
One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one
another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him,
“Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus
answered, “The first is,
‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall
love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The
second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than
these.”
The youth ministry at Acton UMC is built around this passage in
Scripture. We learn from this passage five areas that we want
to base our ministry on; these areas are active faith, community,
teaching, oneness, and neighbor.
Active
Faith= “you shall love…” a call for an active
faith being lived out
Community=
“Hear, O Israel” all Israel is called as a community of
believers
Teaching=
“the Lord is one” to help us better understand who God
is
Oneness=
“heart, soul, mind, strength” God wants our all not
just part
Neighbor=
“love your neighbor as yourself” the Kingdom is about
loving others
